GUNS N' ROSES frontman and sole original member Axl Rose has released the following statement via Twitlonger.com, a related Twitter site where one can post messages longer than 140 characters: "ATTENTION: The March 14th GUNS N' ROSES show in Rio De Janeiro at Apoteose Stadium has been officially canceled for this evening due to the stage collapsing because of heavy rains. Stay tuned for more info and possible rescheduling information as we receive it. There is a possibility the show may be rescheduled for tomorrow night, March 15th or at a later date. There fortunately are no fatalities but there are injuries from both our camp and Rio crews the extent of which is not known at present. The Rio Fire Dept is evacuating crews out of the venue to avoid further injuries with the heavy rains and winds. Details are just coming in. Also a truck w/part of The Sebastian Bach Band's gear has rolled on the trip from Sao Paulo to Rio what is our understanding several times and we are awaiting details on the safety of the driver at this time. Thank you for your understanding and please be safe out there. Thank you. Axl Rose." A photo of the collapsed stage can be viewed below (courtesy of Gnrworld): source
sourceRIO UPDATE: They're now saying the venue actually experienced a minor tornado. Either that or regional Global media blowing usual hot air. J/k !! Love, El Gordo!!
RIO UPDATE: All injuries appear to be minor. There were originally radio reports of a fatality which has fortunately turned out to be false. Initial reports are that our staging is for the most part ok but a more accurate assessment is being made. No word yet on if the show will be moved to tomorrow the 15th or another night. Reportedly Baz's truck driver is ok as well. Thank you again for your understanding. Axl- http://twitter.com/axlrose

The Avett Brothers Turner Hall Milwaukee, WI Anticipation had reached a fevered pitch by the time the Avett Brothers took the stage Saturday night at the Riverside Theater, in Milwaukee. With the release of their most recent critically acclaimed album I and Love and You, tickets for this show sold so well that the venue was changed from Turner Hall to the Riverside Theater to accommodate twice the fans and it still sold out like many of the other dates on this tour. Those who attended were not disappointed as this show lived up to the hype. There is certainly a bluegrass, folk and country foundation in their style and delivery but they move beyond traditional reverence with their own infusion of rock, punk and even hip-hop influences. On stage the Avett Brothers are more than the some of their parts. The actual brothers Scott and Seth are like so many other brother acts in rock history, able to sing incredible harmonies, displaying a sixth sense of timing and knowing what the other is doing without ever communicating it. Both are multi instrumentalist but Scott on banjo and Seth on acoustic guitar seemed to be where each is most comfortable. The addition of Bob Crawford on double and electric bass and Joe Kwon playing the cello brings a fullness to their live sound. Additionally they were joined onstage by a fifth none band member to play drum parts on a few songs. The results are an explosion of acoustic sounds that are very pure and allow each part to be heard clearly, all this serves as the foundation for the superb vocal talents of Scott and Seth as the harmonized together, traded parts, bantered and even threw down a few hip hop rhymes. What makes the Avett Brothers special are the songs. The acoustic arrangements, the vocal harmonies are all in service of the songs to communicate the raw emotions and power of the lyrics. The audience is right there with them along for a ride down the roads of their Concord North Carolina hometown. The songs celebrate the human condition; themes included sentimental songs of regret and of family and belonging, leaving home, missing home, returning home and even silly love songs. A lot of the songs had a sadness and sentimentality about them without sounding trite or sappy and these sad songs drew the crowd in to their intimate world. That transcendent feeling of a shared experience is what live music is all about and the Avett Brothers tapped into that Saturday night. This was truly a great performance at a great moment in their development as performers and song writers. All that sadness and sentimentality aside there is also a great sense of joy and celebration. The band literally poured every ounce of sweat they had into a non-stop, high energy show that had the capacity crowd singing and sweating right along with them. Tanks on the streets of Bogota for Metallica The security measures are set to be as heavy as the music when rockers Metallica take to the stage in Bogota's Simon Bolivar park this evening. Some 1,500 police will be employed to stand guard at the site during Metallica's concert, as well as four tanks and several police trucks, reported El Espectador. Authorities will also be closing the streets around the park and preventing the entry of under-14s, pregnant women, those under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and those carrying weapons. The Los Angeles SAN FRANCISCO rock behemoths have arrived in the Colombian capital, along with 70 tons of speakers, lights and screens - everything necessary for a spectacular show. AmenSupport will come from fellow rockers Mastodon, who in an interview with website Shock, said it was a privilege to perform with the legendary heavy metal band. Entry to the site for ticket holders will begin at 2 PM - good news for those who have been camping outside the arena . Other artists set to perform in Colombia in the near future include Aerosmith, Sting and Moby. Source

Lollapalooza 2010 Headliners: The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Soundgarden, and...
A trustworthy industry source just gave us a scoop that the complete list of Lollapalooza headliners will include the following: Strokes, Arcade Fire, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Soundgarden… and Phoenix. Aside from Phoenix, all acts had been previously named by Greg Kot on his blog back in February. The French band would take a major leap to the big leagues if this shakes out. Having seem Thomas Mars and co. thrill a packed Aragon, I can see it happening, despite the knee-jerk take that it is not popular enough. Phoenix packed the venue with as many fans as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, for what that’s worth. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix has been hanging at the top of iTunes charts for about a year. So, the Lolla pole position could very well be true. Lolla typically officially anounced headliners around this time of year, the first full week of March, so stay tuned. Source

See the setlist from their first show UPDATE: Spiral Stairs has posted an entry on his blog about the Auckland show, featuring photos and the setlist. As you may have heard, the indie rock band Pavement are traveling around the world on a reunion tour this year. And just a few hours ago, they wrapped up their first show in more than a decade at Auckland, New Zealand's Town Hall. Naturally, a picture of what sure looks like a Pavement reunion tour setlist is making the rounds online. (Via BrooklynVegan.) And, to make the tour kickoff that much sweeter, Pavement just announced six more U.S. dates in September. Their updated 2010 itinerary is after the jump. According to the purported setlist (which cuts off in the middle of the encore), the band concentrated on beloved early songs from Slanted and Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. The set contained a good portion of the tracklist for the forthcoming Pavement best-of, Quarantine the Past. No video of the gig has surfaced just yet. (Keep track of setlists and media from the tour on this well-organized fansite.) Check out the setlist below, and stare at a few blurry pics from the gig here: Pavement: 03-01 Auckland, New Zealand - Town Hall:
"In the Mouth a Desert" "Trigger Cut" "Ell Ess Two" (note: various sites report that they played "Loretta's Scars" or "Elevate Me Later" here) UPDATE: "Ell Ess Two" is an alternate title for "Elevate Me Later". The title "Ell Ess Two" refers to the fact that the song has the same chords as "Loretta's Scars". Hence the confusion. Thanks to Pitchfork Pavement expert Matthew Perpetua for pointing that out! "Shady Lane" "Father to a Sister of Thought" "Rattled by the Rush" "Perfume-V" "Summer Babe" "Kennel District" "Silence Kit" "Range Life" "Unfair" "Stop Breathin'" "No Life Singed Her" "Fight This Generation" "Date w/ IKEA" "Box Elder" "Grounded" "Gold Soundz" "The Hexx" "Give It a Day" "Cut Your Hair"
"Stereo" "Spit on a Stranger"
The picture of the setlist cuts off here, but other songs mentioned in a separate fan account are listed below:

Ah spring. When the weather turns warmer and flowers begin to show their little heads again, it can only mean one thing: It’s time for bands from Europe and the U.K. to venture across the Atlantic to entertain audiences. This year North America is in for a double treat courtesy of Sweden’s Little Dragon and U.K. singer VV Brown. Trip-Hop/Soul act Little Dragon hits the road first, kicking off a six-week run March 11 at the Windish Agency’s CMW Showcase at Lee’s Palace in Toronto and then heading south for a series of shows in Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Georgia.
The Swedish quartet, who have drawn praise from the likes of Erykah Badu, Rza, and DJ Shadow for their eclectic rhythmic style, have scheduled 30 tour dates that span the whole United States, as well as a few stops in Canada and Mexico. Along the two month trip, Little Dragon will also be performing at the Midwest Mission Creek Festival (4/2) and Coachella Valley Music Arts & Festival (4/16). Beginning March 21 at The Milestone in Charlotte, N.C., they’ll be joined by British chanteuse VV Brown on most dates, including stops in Philadelphia, D.C., Chicago, Salt Lake City, Seattle and San Francisco.
Fans of finely crafted pop can expect to hear some of the best material on the scene today during both sets, with Little Dragon supporting their sublime, ’80s-influenced sophomore release Machine Dreams and former Pollstar Hotstar Brown touring behind her infectious and “crazy catchy” debut Travelling Like the Light.
Both acts are likely to be high on everyone’s watch list for 2010. Not only are Little Dragon set to appear at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in April, they’re the only act to make two guest appearances on the highly anticipated new Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach, due in March.
Their lead single, "Feather," pushes their particular brand of down-tempo, spaceous pop, while singer Yukimi Nagano contributes vocals that would sound at home in a lot of modern R&B.
