Are you ready for the next installment of the Cassi van den Dungen roller coaster? Paris. Yep. Frockwriter hinted that there was potentially some exciting news surrounding a brand new Australian face at the FW1011 shows and this is it (well, part of...). After being crowned runner-up in Australia's Next Top Model Cycle 5, snubbing contracts with Priscilla's and Elite New York, giving up modeling, signing with Tanya Powell, then Work Agency, getting slagged off by ANTM hosts Charlotte Dawson and Alex Perry on Facebook, then talked up by influential model scouting site The Ones To Watch, van den Dungen is packing her bags for her first ever trip to the City of Light. She has been placed with IMG's Paris Development board and will be chaperoned by Work Agency booker Sash Andreevski. So much for not wanting to work outside Australia. According to Work Agency director Helena Vitolins, "She's focused, she's definitely ready, her head's in a really great space. She wants it all."

Top designer Alexander McQueen has hired Tyra Banks' protege as the face of his spring/summer 2011 collection.

Nicole Fox, who won Bank's reality contest America's Next Top Model last year, will feature on print and multi-media ads for the Brit.

She's the first Top Model winner to land an international campaign.

Fox tells WENN, "It seems Tyra's risk is paying off."

The model, who admires Kate Moss, now has her sights set on working with high fashion photographer Steven Meisel: "If I ever modelled for him, I'd be blown away."

And she hopes her latest big break could bring her to the attention of movie hunk Robert Pattinson.

She adds, "I have a crush on him and I met him last year in New York during his promotional tour for New Moon."

Fox might get the chance to run into the star again next month as both are expected to be part of New York fashion week.

I can't help it, I absolutely adore this girl. I think she's gorgeous and it isn't just my love of red heads coming through. I'm glad to see her actually getting work as well. I was always Team Bloody Eyeball in the past cycle of ANTM but I couldn't help but wonder if losing would actually be better for her career, I'm glad to see that isn't the case. Although.... girl... RPatz? I could maybe forgive her for this since she'a all of 18, but still.

Also, here's a pic from Alexander McQueen's 2008 Spring/Summer collection for some reference.

ETA: Nicole my faith in you has been restored. Thanks to [info]filmfreakfranco for this tidbit -
She posted this to someone's comment about it on Facebook:
Nicole Fox: What the...ugh hell no!! (to the Rob part)

ETA x2: Apparently this article isn't actually factual. :( Screw you IMDB and Wenn. Nicole still remains amazing and the best thing to come out of ANTM.

Australia's Next Top Model judge Charlotte Dawson (not pictured) has slammed Australia's plus-size modelling industry, labelling it "non-existent" and declaring no curvy model wannabes will win the reality show on her watch.

Dawson dealt the blow to aspiring plus-size models as hundreds of teenage girls crowded into Chadstone shopping centre in Melbourne's south east today to audition for the sixth series of the Foxtel show.

"There is no market for plus-size models in Australia.... it would be tokenism to put a plus-size girl through just for the sake of it," Dawson told ninemsn.

Dawson said despite the recent shift in the media towards positive coverage of plus-size models the fashion industry in Australia had still not caught up.

"I would like someone to name a plus-size model in Australia because I can't," she said.

"We could have a plus-size model win the competition and she would end up doing catalogues for Target."

Dawson said last year's winner on the show, Tahnee Atkinson, who was billed as "full-figured" and "curvaceous" despite being only a size 10, was the perfect size for the global fashion industry.

"I think the industry internationally has had enough of the really skinny, scrawny models... you couldn't call Tahnee curvy, she's just a normal, healthy girl," she said.

Despite Dawson's objections to plus-size models — who generally measure from size 14 upwards — the judge said there was one larger girl who made it through to the second stage of the Sydney auditions last week.

"She would have been a size 14 top and 16 bottom ... she was one of those beautiful girls who light up the room," Dawson said.

But Dawson said it would still be a mistake to select a plus-size model for one of the final contestants.

"You can't change the industry overnight, there is just not enough work for them in Australia," Dawson said.

Darrianne Donnelly, the director of the plus-size modelling agency BGM Models, said she was "disappointed" by Dawson's comments.

"For Charlotte Dawson to say there is no plus-size modelling industry in Australia is untrue....I have models out there proving it every day," Ms Donnelly said.

"I have one model who has just landed a contract with Avon in the Philippines and another who is flying down for a shoot with Myer in Melbourne today."

Aspiring plus-size model Chelsea Votano said she found attending the show's Sydney audition's last week a positive experience, despite being rejected by the judges.

"At first I was really nervous standing there amongst all those skinny girls but then it became quite empowering, I was there for myself," Ms Votano, who is a size 14-16, said.

"I walked in front of the judges and they were really nice and just said I was not what they were looking for."

I can see what she's trying to get at - despite the average size of an Australian woman being 12-14, I don't see much advertising going on with plus sized models. But instead of making these sort of derogatory remarks about it, maybe she could at least start doing something about it - like by being more open minded about accepting plus sized models into the competition.

AUSTRALIA'S Next Top Model winner Tahnee Atkinson shows off her enviable curves in jeans queen Bettina Liano's sexy new ad campaign.
Atkinson, 17, is the face - and behind - of Liano's new Curvy Fit jeans, a range designed to give girls more room in the thigh and hip area.

Liano said she picked Atkinson for the campaign because of her womanly figure.

"It has nothing to do with being fat or skinny, it's about the shape of the body, not the size," Liano said.

"Consequently when looking for a model we wanted someone young that projected sex appeal and most importantly had some curve."

Atkinson's agent Priscilla Leighton-Clark said the young fashion plate was getting plenty of work offers although was not rushing into jobs.

"We have been very selective with Tahnee since she won Australia's Next Top Model," Leighton-Clarke said. "She has a very bright future and people just fall in love with her when they work with her.

"She just has the most beautiful body."

It was interesting reading all their post-show interviews. Particularly Laura who thought her pictures were just as strong as Nicole's so she had every chance of winning. She also defended butterface-Kara and all her mean comments about Nicole. Seriously Laura?

Nicole's Official FACEBOOK is up: FRIEND HER. She is so fucking sweet. Oh and she recently went to a Garnier commercial go-see with 200 other girls. They asked her to dance! lol

This is from a couple of months ago, but I checked & it wasn’t posted

Australia's Next Top Model's Cassi Van Den Dungen rejected New York deal over weight issues

Cassi Van Den Dungen happy with her weight
Feared dropping from size six to size four

THE price teenager Cassi Van Den Dungen would have had to pay to model on the world stage was dropping from a skinny size six to a skeletal size four.

The Australia's Next Top Model runner-up was recently criticised for turning down an offer to work with a leading New York model agency.

But the already-skinny Sunbury model feared she would be pushed to lose weight.

"I know the international market would want me to lose more weight," Van Den Dungen said.

And rather than conform to the skinny sizing, the girl dubbed Sunbury's boganista has, strangely enough, turned into a role model for young women.

"I don't want to lose any more weight. I'm happy with the way I am and I actually want to put the weight I lost from the stress of the show back on," she said.

"I am already in between a size six and eight but I would like to be a more average size, say between eight and 10."

She said it was worrying to see the lengths some models went to to reach industry standards.

"It freaks you out to see how skinny these girls can get. They have got to be unhealthy and not eating properly and if they are eating properly then they are not eating enough."

Van Den Dungen's Melbourne modelling agent Candy Powell believes her teenage model made the right choice.

"The international market would want Cassi to lose weight," Powell said.

"I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to press a 17-year-old girl to slim down from size six or eight to size four," she said.

"I'd actually like to see her with a little more weight."

Powell said Van Den Dungen had been with the Tanya Powell Model Agency since she was a kid and had lost weight during the stress of filming Australia's Next Top Model.

She felt the Australian modelling industry was more flexible about models' weight.

"It's one of the good things about working with local designers, they want to show clothes in more realistic sizes.

"I'm sure when she feels ready, Cassi can make it in New York."

Don’t you guys think it’s weird that the judges made such a fuss about Mikarla being too thin when Cassi was always just as skinny or even skinnier than she was? Why didn’t they tell her to put on weight?

Also on the topic of weight/skinniness…

Julia Frakes, teenage fashion blogger & style icon, Paper magazine columnist, etc

She’s been featured in numerous magazines & websites such as TeenVogue. How is it that she’s in the spotlight yet nobody in the media has said anything about how extremely thin she is? Why is she making news only because of her style & knowledge of fashion yet not because of her astonishingly low weight? She does have a fair amount of exposure…google her if you're not familiar.
