Jesse McCartney has been in the studio recording his fourth LP with producer-songwriter Sean Garrett, who he previously worked with on 2008’s Departure, including the single “How Do You Sleep?” “I’m doing three joints for Jesse on his new album and we got some really, really good shit already,” Garrett tells Rap-Up.com. “I’m really excited about that.”

The soon to be 23-year-old has developed a more R&B sound since his solo debut six years ago. “He’s growing up on this record. I think what’s great about Jesse McCartney is that he definitely has a great voice,” says Garrett. “He could really do whatever he wants to do if he’s just produced well because he has an exceptional voice and he’s poised to really come into his own with this album. If that remains to be the focus, then he’s definitely gonna win.”

Sean also said he’s giving Jesse a leg up in luring the ladies in: “I gave him some swag, not corny swag shit. I wanted to give him real songs, but also give him some shit that has some real swag to it. Girls will be like, ‘Damn, I need to call up Jesse. He’s somebody I need in my life.’ And not just from a corny pop perspective, the Mr. Cool song, but more so like, ‘Damn, I need to see dude.’”

In January, a new demo entitled "Tonight Is Your Night" leaked, produced by The Movement, who also provided his last single "Body Language."

“It’s gonna be kind of a continuation of Departure, but maybe a little more R&B slightly. You’ll get the chance to hear what’s going on in my head right now and a little...more personal” Jesse said of the new material.

“It’s a little bit more raw,” he explained. “But still rhythmic and upbeat. It’s still soulful. I’m still kind of writing it all out. I don’t want to give too much away.”

His new effort will drop later this year.

For anyone who was a fan of Letters To Cleo or Kay Hanley's solo material, you will be excited to know that Kay has formed a band with Linus Dotson (AKA Linus of Hollywood) called PALMDALE.

If you recognise the name, it's could be from the movie 10 Things I Hate About You (in which LTC were featured and provided songs for the OST) or The Josie and the Pussycats Soundtrack (which Kay provided vocals for) or maybe even the fast-spoken hit Here and Now which used to play during the ending credits for the original Melrose Place.

To check out a few LTC videos, check out my post from 2008 where I announced that they were reuniting for a short tour - link.

For updates via Twitter, you can follow @KayHanley @LinusDotson @WeArePalmdale.

The EP includes a cover of Local H's Bound For The Floor from 1996's "As Good As Dead".

SLASH FROM GUNS N ROSES!!!

I went to muchmusic yesterday, initially for Hedley (DON'T JUDGE ME!!!), and had no idea Slash was there too, so I was really stoked when I found that out.
Holy hell though. The audience was 97% 16 yr old hardcore wannabe fangirls who went batshit over him as if he was justin bieber. AT LEAST I WAS ALIVE WHEN GUNS N ROSES WERE BIG.
He is an amazingly nice dude!! These children were lunging themselves at him and he said he'd come around to them during another break/after the show, and he did. He made sure to go around to everyone who wanted to meet him and sign something, as he said if he took a picture with one person, he would have to take with everyone, and he just didn't have enough time for that. He was gracious and kind about it the whole time.

I concealed my identity as the face I made was not attractive at all, or attractive enough to be seen by ONTD.

Since I wasn't prepared at all, I only had my wristband for him to sign. He gently took my hand/wrist as he signed it. I'll admit, I shook a little.

South African hip-hop act and Internet sensation Die Antwoord have signed to Interscope, according to Boing Boing [via the Daily Swarm]:

“And that’s what I did to Jimmy Iovine,” he says. “He didn’t seem to like it, but nobody told me it wasn’t cool to do that. And then I kissed him on each cheek, because we were making a deal like you do with the mafia. Die Antwoord is in business with Interscope now.”
It’s been a whirlwind of a month for the group, which garnered a ton of Internet press after Boing Boing featured a quick post on the band Feb. 1. Pitchfork, normally apprehensive of Internet-hyped-acts (perhaps more so when it comes to rivaling blogs, as can be seen in the cases against blog-beloved acts such as Cold War Kids and Sound Team), blew their proverbial stack over the band, producing as much material as one can imagine about an act just beginning to walk.

There have been a lot of questions about the veracity of the group, but, especially with their signing to Interscope, one thing is certain: Big ideas executed to their fullest potential tend to win. And win big.

All it took was one well-shot video and having a little Internet presence in the form of an excellently-crafted website to gain a heap of attention. Nevermind the music: There are countless fantastic bands out there that may never “make it” simply because of the dearth of people creating music. After all, think of the bands that have “made it” and weigh that against your personal taste and see what works.

Ideas, whatever you want that to mean, expedite the process in nearly every field. It obviously doesn’t seal the deal: That’s where the content comes in. But it gets you noticed, and for Die Antwoord, it’s been enough to get them to Hollywood, grab a record deal in a time when that industry is cutting back, get them millions of hits on YouTube and help them execute even larger ideas, such as a music video directed by Oscar-nominee Neill Blomkamp and a feature-length documentary in the works.

Of course, the Internet has been a place of rewarding people with great/strange/out-there ideas with loads of attention… Now it’s just a matter of people figuring out how to turn those ideas into something people can live off of. So, who knows what will happen to Die Antwoord.

I really like them I first heard of them thanks to Gabe Saporta from Cobra Starship, anyway they are very good...

On February 8, Monica shot the promo for her video “Everything to Me” which will be the first single from her new album “Still Standing” which is due for release on March 23rd.

One of the main looks for her video sees her wearing a poufy sleeved red gown from the late Alexander McQueen’s Pre-Fall 2009 collection.

I just love the detail on the back.

Monica has long been an admirer of Alexander McQueen, as she’s worn looks by the late designer many times before.

According the clapper board, this shoot took place just 3 days before the designer tragically passed away.

In another scene she wears an Alexander McQueen look from the Fall 2009 collection.

This blouse with a rosette detail formed part of the hounds-tooth theme which dominated this collection.

I loved this blouse and I glad that Monica has worn this fabulous piece, pairing it with a black pencil skirt.

After Alexander McQueen’s death Monica released a statement which said.

“My new video “Everything To Me,” features several exclusive pieces from Alexander McQueen, a beautiful reflection of his artistic spirit and love for fashion. I sincerely and lovingly dedicate my video to Alexander McQueen and his unforgettable legacy.”

I’m working on a post for McQueen’s final collection which I will post next week.

Pop sensation Ke$ha, in her high-school days, performed as Spice Girl Geri Halliwell in her famous Union Jack dress.

The TiK ToK singer – real name Kesha Sebert – pretended to be Ginger Spice for a one-off performance in her senior year at Brentwood High School in Tennessee.

She told the school’s yearbook being Ginger in a show of Girl Power with her pals was “very humiliating… but very funny”.

In a caption alongside another photo of her holding a microphone and belting out a tune, Ke$ha says: “I’ve been singing forever, and I write my own music that I sing.” She adds: “My hero is Frank Black of the Pixies because he’s a musical genius.

Ke$ha was also on the high school’s newspaper and is seen checking out a flashy new camera in the 2004/05 yearbook.

We've got another update about rapper Guru's condition since suffering a heart attack recently.

The former Gangstarr frontman is currently recovering after undergoing surgery this week, which kept him in a medically induced coma. He' ok though.

In a statement on Wednesday (March 3), 43-year-old Guru himself says he has awakened and doing well in his recovery, adding that his business partner Solar will be the only person giving "accurate" updates about his status.

"I am doing fine and I am recovering. I'm weak though," Guru said. "Solar is the only person who has the accurate info on my situation. Any info from anybody else is false. I appreciate your well wishes and all the love."

In a statement himself, Solar -- who serves as Guru's Solar and partner for his 7 Grand Records label -- echoed the rapper's comments.

"Guru is resting and doing well after his surgery," he said. "The doctors say that he will fully recover from his illness. We thank everyone who send prayers our way and we appreciate the outpouring of love from around the world."

Guru's former Gangstarr partner-in-crime, DJ Premier, had been previously giving the public updates about the rapper's condition.

It's unclear if the rapper's disclaimer was aimed toward him, or another person.

Feisty rapper Ludacris has made peace with Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively, bringing an end to one of the great showbiz feuds of the last decade.

In an exclusive interview the controversial rapper confirmed he confronted the conservative television host at a recent event and extended the hip hop hand of friendship.

"The first thing I said to him was, 'I want to meet the guy who has had so much to say about me, but knows absolutely nothing about me'," Ludacris told RadarOnline.com.

"I identified that I wanted to speak to him when I saw his name on the guest list. I looked at what table he was on, and I walked my a** straight to that table.

"He wasn't expecting to see me, at all. The look on his face when he saw me approaching... priceless."

And in the most unlikely pairing, Ludacris said the foes even teamed up for a recent charity event, which was kept secret.

In 2002, when Pepsi announced Ludacris as one of its spokespeople, O'Reilly demanded a boycott against the company for hiring someone who "disrespects women, encourages drug use and encouraged violence."

Pepsi immediately fired Ludacris. O'Reilly continued to condemn the rapper for years, calling him "vile" and a "thug" rapper.

Of the peace-brokering, Ludacris said: "The conversation we had was confidential, however, let's just say it was a good conversation and good came out of it.

"From there, we came to a common ground. To be honest with you, we came together and did an event for charity - as crazy as it sounds. Perhaps everything happens for a reason

"I prayed since the very first moment that Bill said something about me on television that I would be able to meet him in person.

"It took about seven years for that to happen, but it finally happened. And the joy that came over me, well, it was outstanding."

Ludacris’ new album The Battle of the Sexes has spawned the hit single How Low, which has gone platinum.
