 Antonio L.A. Reid has found himself in hot water after being accused of mishandling many of his label’s biggest projects during the last year. The Island Def Jam CEO has reportedly been facing pressure from Lucian Grainge, the new Universal Music Group CEO, following his rampant spending and the incredibly low sales of Mariah Carey and Rihanna’s recent releases. Moreover, Reid’s recent efforts to sign Jennifer Lopez (who has not had a hit record in years) have made him the target of serious media criticism. Reid was scheduled to answer questions from fellow industry moguls regarding the issue at the Billboard 2010 Music & Money Symposium at the St. Regis last week but failed to make an appearance after one of his sons mysteriously fell ill. To date, Carey’s ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’ has sold just short of 500k units since it’s release in September while Rihanna’s ‘Rated R’ has only shipped 2.5 worldwide compared to the 2.6 million that her ‘Good Girl Gone Bade’ album sold in the US alone. We mentioned yesterday that for some reason Mariah Carey has a large fan base in Brazil. In fact, her song I Want To Know What Love Is has been on the Brazilian charts for 20 consecutive weeks at the number one spot. It's even become the longest chart-topper in the countries history! And now we know why. Turns out Mimi's song was turned into the theme song for one of Brazil's most popular soap operas, Viver a Vida. Fans turned out in droves on Saturday night to see the hitmaker close out her “Angels Advocate Tour” at The Colosseum, but a packed house wasn’t enough to make a restless Mariah delay a trip to the MD after allegedly suffering problems with her vocal chords, according to New York Post gossip column PageSix. After getting the all clear from docs, Mariah further delayed the show by waiting in her car until waning R&B star Ciara, who was also performing at the venue, completed her performance. “Ciara was performing as Mariah arrived, so she waited in the car, saying she didn’t want to upstage her.”
