ESPN/Former Kimmel writer Bill Simmons and TV Critic Tim Goodman discuss the Late Night TV Fiasco

Earlier today, ESPN columnist and former late night TV writer Bill "The Sports Guy" Simmons made headlines when he tweeted the scoop that next week would be Conan O'Brien's final week hosting tonight show. Wasting no time, Ill Bill got on his podcast with TV critic Tim Goodman to break down the situation and take time at the start to explain (Kinda) how he got the scoop.

Highlights:

-Bill explains how he found out that next week could be the last week for Conan from people on the show co-ordinating bookings.

-Mentions how he predicted that Jay Leno would comeback in less than a year back in early '09 and how this was all a ploy  to screw Conan

- The situation might be in lawyers hands, but with Conan's attacks on the show, they may amicably breakup.

- Discuss how rejuvinated Conan is  since murdering NBC on his show this past week (Got his swag back) and how he didnt have that in the previous months since taking over the show.

-Why they wanted to keep Jay Leno, and use the 10pm slot.

-Why didnt Conan's lawyers notice the loophole in the NBC contract?

-Why people like Conan and Letteman yearn for the Tonight Show title and the prestige that comes with it. (Johnny Carson hated Conan?)

-How Jay Leno possibly killed that prestige

- Why people hate Jay Leno and citing the 1970's Comedian's strike. Mentions that by moving to 11:30pm again, Jay gets a new contract making him look like a bigger scumbag ("Conan, Kimmel and Letterman arent laughing with you, they're tearing you a new one")

-Jeff Zucker hurting NBC's brand ("They're like the Detroit Lions")

-Would the Tonight show have guest hosts?

- What's next for Conan?  Fox?

-Should he go to cable? (Called it)

-Rounds up the podcast discussing TV, fav shows from 2009 (Breaking Bad, Dexter) upcoming  shows like David Simon's Treme. and shows to do a marathon on (Wire, Shield, Sopranos), further discuss the just greatness of The Wire and a little bit on Friday Night Lights this season.
(Simmons on True Blood: "You know what it is? Its the Wire for Horny Teenagers" LMAO!)

-Replays his prediction from March 2009, when he said Leno would probably go back to 11:30 and that NBC never really had intentions to give Conan the show long time and they just didnt want to pay the penalty of letting him walk to Fox in 2004.

Love Bill Simmons' podcast and I figured since everyone has a vested interest on the late night situation, his take and analysis would be something they would wanna hear. As a former late night writer, he has many friends in the industry and he's probably been one of the few people with the best insider knowledge on this story. I encourage you all to take timeout and listen to this, it beats the usual wank in the posts.

That said, I'm starting to feel like the whole situation is somewhat of a publicity stunt too.

And you're not dreaming kids, its really is a  Bill Simmons post on ONTD. Oooooooooooooooooooh Johnnny!!!
lol@ him being proud of Kimmel for his work on Leno tonight.
