Poor ol' Spenny -- who regularly was the victim on Kenny vs. Spenny -- is aiming to make his way back to TV with a hand from the legendary David Steinberg.
Breakthrough Films & Television has received a green light from Canwest for production of a pilot starring Spencer Rice, titled Single White Spenny. It is loosely based on Spenny's own woe-begotten life and is similar stylistically to Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Steinberg, a Canadian comedy icon, has been brought on board as an executive producer and he will direct the pilot. "Spencer is very funny and talented," Steinberg said in a statement. "It is great working with him, the Breakthrough team and (co-creator) Stevie Ray Fromstein -- who told me I gave him his start, although I had no memory of that."
Single White Spenny also will star Debra McGrath, Nikki Payne, Dana Puddicombe and Mark Breslin.
If the pilot gets picked up for a series, it will air on Showcase.
